Joe Jonas joins WGN Morning News live to talk about his new show, “The Next”.
CW’s new show, THE NEXT: Fame at Your Doorstep, take four musical icons – Joe Jonas, Gloria Estefan, John Rich, and Nelly – to search from city to city to help an inspiring local music artist rise to celebrity fame.
Contestants will consist of local musical heroes with a regional following of devoted fans and each has a social media presence on Twitter and Facebook. The four musical celebrities will drop in on their lives for 72 hours to help groom each local artist while living with them.
After 72 hours with a music guru, the fresh local artists will go head-to-head with each other with a packed audience. One winner will be chosen and move on to the semi-finals where they will compete against other local artist from different cities.
After six episodes, in six different cities, each of our six local winners will battle it out live on stage each week. Then it is up to America to decide who will rise to stardom and gain a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
The Next will appear on CW Thursday, August 16th 9/8c

As if Joe Jonas wasn’t adorable enough, his work as a mentor with Acuvue’s 1-Day Contest shows his softer side. He dishes to Seventeen about how being a mentor has given him more confidence.
Seventeen: How have you helped the people you’ve mentored fulfill their dreams?
Joe Jonas: I pulled from my personal experiences to help them. Meeting people who want to start a charity, help out their families, or raise money for a good cause has been really fun. I get to surprise them and say, ‘You and I are going to talk about what your dream one day is going to be.’ I helped someone get a food truck and raise money for charity. It was a lot of fun!
17: What has been the most rewarding aspect of mentoring for you?
JJ: The most rewarding part has been to help people and see their confidence build. I remember one girl I did a project with last year: Seeing her a year later, I didn’t even recognize her. Her personality is so bright and energetic now. Seeing that change, I thought ‘This is awesome. This is the kind of stuff I love. This is why I love doing it.’
17: Why do you think it’s important to have a mentor?
JJ: A lot of people put pressure on themselves and think it will be way too hard for them to live out their dreams. Mentors are there to say, ‘Look, it’s not that tough. It’s not as hard as you think. Here are some guidelines and things I have gone through to get to where I am in my career.’
17: Back to Acuvue. Do you think wearing contacts has made you feel more confident?
JJ: Wearing contacts has been great. I use Acuvue 1-Day lenses which I like because I can just throw my contacts out at the end of the day and grab a new pair the next morning. I remember when I was growing up, I always wore glasses and so if I was on-stage or just being able to move around playing sports, I was never really able to because I had glasses holding me back. Wearing contacts has just been very helpful.
THE WINNER OF THE CW’S “THE NEXT” TO EARN RECORDING CONTRACT WITH ATLANTIC RECORDS
The CW to Broadcast the Final 3 Episodes Live as Viewers Get to Vote
for THE NEXT via Online and Social MediaSongs Performed on THE NEXT Available for Digital Download Following Each Episode
July 30, 2012 (Beverly Hills, CA) – As the competition heats up and with an Atlantic Records recording contract awaiting the winner, The CW will broadcast the final three episodes of its new music competition series THE NEXT live from Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 27 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET), Tuesday, Oct. 2 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET), and the special two-hour finale on Thursday, Oct. 4 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET). During these live performance episodes, viewers will be able to vote online and through social media for their favorites, narrowing the field until one is chosen as The Next.
Premiering Thursday, Aug. 16 (9:00-10:00 p.m.), THE NEXT travels to cities across the country, including Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Orlando, Los Angeles, and New York, searching for undiscovered artists on the verge of stardom. The finalists from the local cities will then converge on Los Angeles to compete for the grand prize over the final live episodes. Following every episode, the songs performed by the competitors will be available for download on all digital service providers (DSPs), including iTunes and Cricket’s Muve Music.
In each episode of THE NEXT, four music industry superstars — pop icon Gloria Estefan, country star John Rich, hip-hop star Nelly, and pop star and actor Joe Jonas — will drop in on the lives of four up-and-coming local singers in each city and have 72 hours to get them ready for a head-to-head singing competition at a well-known local venue. After performing in front of an audience filled with friends, family, local music fans and the four icons, one winner will be chosen to move on to represent their city in the semi-finals. Then it’s on to the next city and four more contestants.
As an extra twist to the competition, even the contestants who don’t win in their home cities will still have a chance to compete in the finals – viewers across the country will be able to vote for their favorite among the performers who didn’t make the first cut, and the contestant with the most votes will go on to the finals.
After six episodes in six different cities, each of the local winners and the fan favorite will battle it out on stage over the course of the final three live episodes until only one contestant remains — the vocalist left standing at the end will be rewarded a recording contract with Atlantic Records and the chance to open for one of the superstar icons.
From executive producers Dave Broome (“The Biggest Loser”), hip-hop icon Queen Latifah, and Shakim Compere, THE NEXT is produced by Raquel Productions Inc., in association with 25/7 Productions, LLC and Flavor Unit Entertainment, Inc.

Jonas Brothers…NEW MUSIC!Joe Jonas stopped by Z104.3 today to talk about his new show The Next on CW and he told us we should expect some new music from the Jonas Brothers REAL SOON!
“We got in the studio and we’re just creating and coming up with a couple songs…we’ve got a couple songs that we’re really passionate about.”
He goes on to compare their inspirations of their new sound to Kings of Leon, Adele, Temper Trap.
Pictures from Joe’s visit today are here….
For the past few days, Gloria Estefan, Nelly, John Rich and Joe Jonas have been in Baltimore, preparing contestants to compete in a new TV show.
Called “The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep,” the CW’s singing competition partners the four stars with local, unsigned singers. The four contestants compete on stage, and the audience votes on who they want to represent their city at a live show in Los Angeles.
The Baltimore taping is at 8 p.m. tonight at the Hippodrome Theatre. The winner gets a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
“It’s a little like ‘The Simple Life’ meets ‘American Idol,’” Jonas said.
Jonas and the other singers shadow their contestants day-to-day, and offer tips on improving their craft — though Jonas couldn’t reveal his contestant’s name or many other details.
“[We are] spending every second we can to practice for this big competition show,” Jonas said.
“I have him practice while he plays basketball. While we are hanging out, he is singing. Playing video games, he is singing. Every second I can, I am getting him prepared.”
With so many singing competitions springing up, what sets “The Next” apart? According to Jonas, the personable and down-to-earth mentoring sessions are unique for an “American Idol”-like show.
“You really get to dive in and spend time with these people in fun and funny situations,” he said. “It’s hilarious.”
Although Joe’s contestant lives right outside Baltimore, he has still been able to enjoy and explore the city the past few days.
“I’m loving Baltimore,” he said. “It’s been a lot of fun. … I’ve had some time off and enjoying the city and the nice hot weather. … It’s just the fact that everything is set up near water and I love that. And the restaurants are fantastic.”
Jonas is pumped for tonight’s taping at the Hippodrome.
“It will be a lot of fun and I hope everyone has a lot of fun with it,” Jonas said.
Check-in at the Hippodrome begins at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

It’s been over two years since the Jonas Brothers hit the studio together and now, after a little time apart, Kevin, Joe, and Nick are ready to capture girls’ hearts all over again with their upcoming album!
Just Jared Jr. recently chatted with Joe at an event for Acuvue’s 1-Day Contest in NYC, where he spilled exclusive details to us about the band’s new music, how he handles heartbreak, and the possibility of starring in a musical with Nick!
Here’s what the 22-year-old singer had to say:
JJJ: Happy early birthday! Do you have any plans?
Joe Jonas: Thank you! Maybe just have dinner with some friends, honestly. Every birthday I have I’m normally on tour. It’s always a cool way to celebrate. We have a bunch of people together and we all hang out and have a big celebration. I think it’ll be nice to just do something a little bit chill this time.JJJ: You’ve been tweeting a lot lately about recording with Kevin and Nick for your guys’ upcoming album! Can you give us any hints as to what the tracks will sound like?
JJ: I think they have [more] mature lyrics and as we’re getting older we’re able to talk about different things and we each have different inspirations [to pull from]. I’m really happy with the music though. I feel like it’s kind of more back to what it should be, more where the roots are, meaning instruments. You know, it’s not so programmed and all off a keyboard and electronic stuff, it’s almost organic.JJJ: Is it safe to say new Jonas Brothers’ music will be released before the end of the year?
JJ: Yeah, I think before the end of the year definitely. We’ve got a couple opportunities this year concert-wise that we might do so you might hear it there!Click inside to read the rest of Joe’s interview…
JJJ: When you guys were first starting out, did you have a backup plan in case your music wasn’t a hit?
JJ: When me and my brothers first started, I think I thought maybe it wasn’t [going to take off]. You always put in the back of your mind that this could just [last] a year, or it could be less, so I did have on my mind to do something [else] like acting or [playing] sports, because when I was younger I never really did sports. If I could have done something like that I would have been happy too, but I’m very pleased to be doing this.JJJ: What would you say is your guilty pleasure?
JJ: I really love slurpees! I’m a big slurpee guy. Two days ago was free slurpee day at 7-Eleven and I didn’t even realize that. I was pretty upset. (Laughs)JJJ: Earlier this year, fans saw you on the dating show The Choice. What advice do you have for healing a broken heart?
JJ: I would say…get out of your house. Go hang with friends and get your mind off of it. Go do things that maybe you haven’t done before, because it can be easy to just sit inside your house either look at all the stuff that they gave you and that can be tough. Take a trip somewhere! That’s what I love to do. I just love to get away if things are bad and tough, maybe take a road trip.
JJJ: Since then, you’ve been busy working on another show called The Next: Fame Is At your Doorstep. What’s that experience been like?
JJ: It’s really cool! It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, be able to mentor musicians. To work with someone that’s in the same genre of pop music and be able to help them towards their career is really exciting!JJJ: How’s your show different from American Idol and the X Factor?
JJ: The biggest difference is that we’re pretty much moving in with these people. We go in there and are like, ‘Listen. For the next 72 hours I’m going to be hanging out and living with you and we’re going to be practicing as much as possible to get you ready for the biggest show of your life!’JJJ: That had to be an interesting experience! Can you give us a sneak peek at some of the situations you guys were exposed to while living with the contestants?
JJ: Yeah, for instance, Gloria Estefan, (laughs), she was riding a tractor around and I was babysitting 15 kids! It was pretty bizarre. We did things we’d never done before, but it was a lot of fun.JJJ: Do you think the Jonas Brothers may perform together on The Next?
JJ: (Smiles) There is a chance, yeah. I’ve talked to my brothers about it and they’re up for it, so if it works out schedule-wise I’m sure you’ll see us on the show.JJJ: Since you’ve been hanging out in NYC a lot lately, have you ever gotten lost on the subway?
JJ: I have gotten lost. I was kind of taking up the challenge because it was around 5 or 6 and in rush hour traffic you can’t get anywhere. I was uptown for a meeting and I tried to get a cab, but it was dead-stop traffic, so I thought I’d just take the subway. I got off at the wrong stop and was still like a good 23 blocks from my apartment. I was like, ‘Ugh!’JJJ: Seeing how Nick just wrapped up his Broadway show, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, would you ever consider doing a musical?
JJ: (Smiles) Me and my brother Nick, we’ve talked about doing something. Maybe [we'll do] a show together next year. It’s just an idea.JJJ: Would the musical be something original?
JJ: Yeah, I think it’d be kind of cool to do a show that was in the West End over in London that maybe had brothers in it somehow. That would be I think the ultimate dream.JJJ: What would you say has been your best and worst experiences in the Big Apple so far?
JJ: Best experiences…I think there is just so much inspiration in New York City! It’s kind of fun to be able to take my bike and ride it and chill. My worst experience is the same thing. I lost my bike, well my bike got stolen, in the daylight on a Saturday. It was kind of bizarre. It was locked and everything. When my bike got stolen, my buddy said, ‘You’re officially a New Yorker now.’ It was kind of a bummer, but it happens.
JJJ: Do you have any lucky charms or something special that you’ve gotten from NYC?
JJ: I have this bracelet that I’ve been wearing a lot. It’s so funny, people compliment me on it and think it’s like from David Yurman or something like that, but it’s really from a guy on the street, literally like two blocks down. I love his jewelry, so I always sport his stuff. Every time I walk up [to his table] he’s like, ‘Ahhh!’ Last time I actually went, he thought I put on [one of his other bracelets] and wasn’t going to pay [for it]. I had to be like, ‘No, the other one’s right there.’ He almost punched me out! (Laughs)JJJ: Besides being a mentor/judge on The Next, you’ve also been able to help kids achieve their dreams with Acuve. What’s that been like?
JJ: It’s been great! It’s similar to The Next with me being a mentor, but in a different way. For me, inspiring somebody with the dream they have for charitable work and being able to get either their charity started or raise money for a certain cause is something I just look at and go, ‘Ok, this is why I do this.’ It’s like a dream for me, so it’s been really special.JJJ: Can you tell us about some of your experiences so far?
JJ: The team at Acuve has been so helpful at [pairing] me with the right opportunities. These two girls I’ve had so far are just so sweet. Both times I’ve just connected really well with them, so I’m really happy.JJJ: Who would you say has been your biggest inspiration or mentor in helping you achieve your dreams?
JJ: My dad is always someone I’ve looked up to. He’s an incredible person and not only a great manager, but a great dad. He knows how to separate them both. He’s been very supportive during our careers. Even when we only had two people in the audience, he was driving us miles and spending his money so that we could live our dream and that was really an important thing.
JJJ: Thanks for doing this interview!
JJ: Thank you!
Gloria Estefan, John Rich, Nelly and Joe Jonas converged on Central Florida this week. Each mentored a local singer for “The Next,” a reality show that debuts Aug. 16 on The CW. Orlando was their first stop, and they will repeat the process in five cities.
“The Next” puts a more personal stamp on singing contests by showing contenders’ lives and letting the hopefuls interact with mentors.
“You have four separate mentors living 72 hours in the lives of other people, plus a live show in each city,”Estefan said. “Then the finals. There’s a lot on our plate. We do some crazy stuff, which I think makes it different. If not, it’s just another music show.”
Estefan wanted to impress her singer, rocker Cori Yarckin, 29, of Orlando, from the start. “I’m a boater. I ambushed her in true Florida style,”Estefan said.
The four stars prepared the singers for a Wednesday concert at House of Blues, where the audience picked the winner. (No spoilers here.) Then victors in each city, plus one singer selected by viewers, will compete for a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
Nelly compared the process to cramming for a test, which is the concert. “Whoever strikes the A plus is going to win it,” Nelly said. “It doesn’t mean the others failed.”
Nelly said that his singer, Itzy Rodriguez, 26, of Orlando, had a strong voice and could pursue rock, pop or R&B. He met her family and visited her at her job in sales. “She’s selling. That’s what this business is, selling,” he said.
Rich is doing “The Next”while touring with Big & Rich. He pulled up in his tour bus to meet country singer Michael Ray, 24, of Eustis. “It’s like Mayberry in the swamp,” Rich said.
Ray and Rich played “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” while Ray’s family watched. “Then he poured me a shot of Crown Royal,” Rich said. “Praise the Lord and pass the whiskey. I fit right in.”
Rich is a reality veteran after winning “The Celebrity Apprentice.” He jumped at the chance to do “The Next” because he could choose the people he wanted to mentor.
“The other music shows are pretty much all the same as far as it’s a cattle call,” Ray said. “It’s thousands of people showing up to audition and getting pared down. This is the opposite. This is very precise, very focused.”
Jonas said that Tayler Buono, 18, of Orlando responded well to his suggestions, such as asking her to stand up and sing at a barbecue place during lunch. He described the talent pool in Orlando as amazing.
“These artists know who they want to be,” Jonas said. “That’s exciting to see.”
Jonas has been working on music with his brothers again after a two-year break. “We have about 10 or so songs we’re really confident with,” he said. “We’re probably going to be touring again soon.”
Estefan wanted to do the show because her 17-year-old daughter had just left home to study music. “I need to keep busy or I’m going to go stir crazy,” she said.
Estefan is enjoying “The Next” for another reason: “I feel like a headmistress at a school for naughty boys, because I’m the only girl.”
Actor and musician Joe Jonas is the latest Hollywood star cover guy of Garage Magazine.
In this issue, the young superstar shares his current singing projects, the collaboration with Philippine famous clothing brand Bench, and the reason why he’d like to bring the Jonas Brothers on his next visit to the Philippines.

The Next is set to premiere sometime later this summer.
Jonas will next appear on a very different type of reality show — Fox’s new celebrity dating series The Choice, premiering on Thursday. Nelly most recently guest-starred on an episode of The CW’s 90210 last year.

Okay, JoBro fans, we know you’ve been anxiously awaiting new music from Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas, and while they promise us it’s on the horizon, unfortunately there’s nothing set in stone. But, to hold you over until the bros make their anticipated comeback, Joe Jonas is set to star on a brand-new CW show, The Next: Fame Is At Your Doorstep.
Joe called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning to discuss his new project, much to fans’ delight. In the new music competition show, which airs in August, Joe, along with fellow judges Nelly, Gloria Estefan and John Rich, will be mentoring four artists around the country in their quest to make it big. Not only will Joe be his contestants’ mentor, but he will be living in their houses for 72 hours in order to really get a feel for who they are as artists. Yep, that’s right, Joe Jonas could be living in your town very soon. Joe told Ryan:
“I’m gonna be spending time with their families [in order to] learn about them. Say they flip burgers, I’m gonna be flipping burgers.” Stars, they’re just like us.
Not to worry, Jonas fans who think Joe is delaying the recording-process. Little bro Nick tweeted his support shortly after Joe’s big announcement:
“@joejonas so excited for you bro… #joejthenext”
If Joe’s feeling a little nervous about taking on this new role, perhaps he could ask fellow popstar Kelly Clarkson who mentors contestants in another music show, Duets, for a little advice. Hm, the two shows seem pretty similar if you ask us.
What do you think about Joe’s announcement? Will you be tuning in? Should Joe continue to be on reality TV (The Choice airs on Wednesday), or should he stick to music?
