ANAHEIM – Comparing life to baseball, Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren preached of hope and miracles during an Easter service at Angel Stadium Sunday.

“Life is like baseball,” Warren said. “We all get a few errors, we get some hits and definitely a lot of strikeouts.”

Warren told the nearly 30,000 attendees – who applauded and loudly praised Jesus Christ – that in life it is never too late for a miracle and it is never too late to start over.

Easter worshippers stood and applauded in song and praise as Warren took the pitcher’s mound to lead the nearly two-hour service. His sermon was accompanied by songs from Saddleback’s worship leader Rick Muchow and the 2010 Dove Award nominated New Artist of the Year, Kari Jobe.

A special three-song session by the Jonas Brothers – Nick, Kevin and Joe – at the end of the service drew screams and cheers from the crowd.

The trio sang “Hold On,” A Little Bit Longer” and “Gotta Find You,” a song written by Saddleback Church member Adam Watts.

“Make a commitment,” Nick Jonas told the crowd between singing verses of “A little Bit Longer” from the piano. “Don’t let things slow you down.”

Jenna Slipp, 18, of Tustin screamed when she found out they were going to be part of the service. She screamed even louder as they walked out on to the field past third base.

“It was great to see them live,” she said clutching her boyfriend Anthony Trinh’s hand. “They were heartfelt. Normally, they’re really upbeat, but today they were mellower, more respectful for the occasion.”

The service also celebrated Saddleback Church’s 30th anniversary. Rick and Kay Warren founded the church with seven people in their apartment in 1980, and 205 people gathered for their first public worship service on Easter that year at Laguna Hills High School. Now the church has more than 22,000 members across five campuses and more than 4,000 Saddleback small groups meet weekly.

Another Saturday night Easter service hosted by Saddleback Church at Angel Stadium drew an estimated 15,000 people and featured Latin Grammy-winning artist Marcos Witt and Jobe. A missions offering – with proceeds going to Haiti – was collected during both services. Easter worshippers were also encouraged to bring food for the church’s food bank. About 65,000 pounds of food were left at four food collection sites in the stadium parking lot.

Before the 10 a.m. service Sunday, worshippers tailgated in the parking lot. There were food, coffee and songs of praise.

Alejandra Ross, of Portola Hills got up at 5 a.m. just to make frittatas with spinach and sundried tomatoes for a group of 17. Lynn MacFarlane, from Ladera Ranch made blueberry, lemon, orange zest and lemon-poppy seed breads.

Both belong to one of Saddleback’s small groups.

“I’m excited. This is so much fun to be here with my family and my church family,” Ross said. “We all looked forward to coming anyhow, but when I found out the Jonas Brothers were coming, I thought it was a good opportunity to attract who would not normally have gone.”

And that was exactly what Warren wanted –- a relevant Easter service that would draw many who had not yet made their commitment to God.

“You can exist for weeks without food, you can exist several days without water and you can exist a few seconds without air,” Warren said, opening the service. “But you can’t live without hope. Optimism is what you think you can do. Hope is what you think God can do.”

Warren closed the service bare-footed and in surf shorts welcoming guests to be baptized in one of three temporary pools outside the stadium.

The Jonas Brothers Hit L.A. – Joe Mentioned!

Welcome to Hollywood, JoBros! When Disney Channel’s JONAS returns for Season 2 this summer, expect a change in scenery. The rocker siblings played by Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas spend an extended vacation away from New Jersey in L.A., with episodes filmed in and around the city. We checked in with the oldest Jonas sibling, Kevin, who tells TV Guide Magazine about ditching the soundstage for the outdoors.

Season 2 scoop, please!
It’s a much different show—it’s on location, it will be all over the place. The big idea is we’re spending the summer away in Los Angeles and exploring what this city has to offer. It’s going to be pretty cool—new characters, new storylines…so many different things are going to happen with it.

What’s it like shooting on location?
It’s so much more fun and it’s incredible to be outside and feel the warmth of the sun all day. You have this beautiful landscape around you—it’s awesome!

You filmed a music sequence involving a helicopter on the rooftop of the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa—how awesome was that?
That was incredible—out of control! We never did anything like that last season. It feels like a movie! It was very cool standing there and seeing the Hollywood sign behind us—very appropriate for what this season has to hold.

Will there be new music this season?
There will be new songs—some we wrote, others we didn’t.

What kind of storylines?
This season is a lot more grown up than it was last season. You can only fake an age for so long! [Laughs] I can tell you this much—the entire season is an arc with a beginning, middle and end, which is nice.

Is there an episode you are really looking forward to?
We just did a table read for an episode where we spend the entire day on the beach—that works for me!

And on the romantic front, what about Stella and Joe?
I won’t give it away, but something very interesting is going to happen with that whole situation. It’s pretty cool!

Any chance of a love connection between Macy and Kevin?
I’m not able to say, but she’s definitely a big part of this next season and I think fans will connect with her on a further level.

How close to reality is Kevin Lucas’s life compared to Kevin Jonas’s?
I find myself doing things that my character would definitely do, but he’s a little over the top for me sometimes.

What’s the best part of working with your brothers?
Having that connection you are able to speak without words sometimes. You know the person and what works for them and that makes a huge difference.

Any downsides?
It’s always a positive. Sometimes you need your space, but we know how to give it to each other and that’s really important. And now that I’m married and not living at home, it’s cool to come to set and see my brothers.

That’s right, congratulations are in order! [Kevin married Danielle Deleasa in December] So how is newlywed life?
It’s great—it’s a lot of fun, we’re having a blast! It’s amazing to be with your best friend every single day of your life, you know?

Any plans to get started on the next generation of Jonases?
I think we’re going to be enjoying each other’s company for a little while, but definitely, we both want kids in the future.

JONAS airs Sundays, 8:30/7:30c, Disney Channel

Jonas Brothers, Lovato light up Rodeo Houston
Written By Kimberly on Mar 8, 2010 | Filed Under: Article, Jonas Brothers, Performance | Comments Off \ Leave a comment

Tween (and teen) spirit — literally — lit up Sunday’s sold-out RodeoHouston show featuring the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato.

Red, blue and green glowsticks whizzed through the air. Cameras flashed nonstop. Toothy smiles were everywhere. The energy was contagious.

Dallas-born Lovato took the stage first for a four-song set, and she was clearly excited to be back in Texas.

“There are so many people out there. My hearts about to burst through my chest,” she tweeted just a few minutes before taking the stage. “I’m so ready for this!”

Lovato looked stylish in all black, including strategically ripped pants; and she seemed sweet and sincere. But her voice often cracked and was weak in several places. At times, she was completely inaudible, and there was a lack of strong backup vocals. [REMEMBER SHE IS SICK THOUGH!!!]

Despite those flaws, Don’t Forget boasted terrific buildup and release. And Lovato found her footing a bit during Here We Go Again (though she yelled much of the song).

The Jonas Brothers started quietly with Lovebug, which still incited equal doses of screams and singalong. Every minor movement, in fact, earned ear-piercing cries. It’s the same excitement that greeted the sibling trio’s 2009 RodeoHouston debut.

The madness hit a frenzied pitch when Joe, dressed in a form-fitting designer suit, jumped offstage and leapt onto the nearest railing — just inches from the outstretched hands of breathless girls.

The JBros have grown since their days opening for Miley Cyrus. They’re more playful and confident onstage. Vocally, all three also showed marked improvement (save for a wobbly When You Look Me In the Eyes).

Early single Year 3000 is still a fizzy jolt of pop silliness, and Lovato (in much better voice) returned to duet with Joe on This Is Me, a song from the Disney film Camp Rock. (The pair also debuted new charity tune Make a Wave.)

Extra touches also made the set spirited and fun. Nick took a solo turn during Who I Am, and all three brandished cowboy hats (and twangy accents) for a cheeky cover of Keith Urban’s Somebody Like You.

By the end of the set, when the JBros powered through hits SOS and Burnin’ Up, it was useless to resist the rush of rocket-fueled pop.
