What do Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Joe Jonas have in common? Well, aside from being internationally renowned pop stars, all three are involved in a new campaign Pepsi has just launched. “Live for Now” focuses on the motto “carpe diem” and celebrates spontaneity through events, digital marketing and, of course, musical partnerships.
For Jonas, the opportunity to spread that message fits with his own philosophy about living life to the fullest. “It’s, I think, a good match. A lot of stuff that I love to do is spontaneous, last minute and living in the moment,” he explained to MTV News. “And what better way to encourage people and my fans to be able to live in the moment? ‘Live for Now’ is tweeting about it and getting them involved.”
As for being the face of the campaign alongside Perry and Minaj (whose Pepsi ads already debuted), well, for Joe, that was icing on the cake. “I’m in great company: Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, more people to come, it’s an incredible little circle right now,” he explained.
“So, hopefully, we’ll all be able to do something together one day. But, as for now, just being able to do it individually and encourage their fans, my fans to get out there, or whomever, and be able to send in their little videos or pictures of them doing things that are in the moment.”
And, he added, those moments can be big or small. “I love being able to travel, take trips,” he said. “I called my buddies up. I literally called one of my best friends [brother-in-law Mikey Deleasa], he showed up to my house in New York, and I’m like, ‘Hey, what are you doing tomorrow? Let’s go to Vegas. Let’s do it!’ We had an incredible trip. We went to the Mayweather fight, and living in the moment and having a good time.
“But, if you can’t take Vegas trips on the weekend, there’s amazing things to do probably in your area,” he added. “Or, a road trip with your friends is always great.”
Earlier this month, Pepsi announced that Michael Jackson, who struck a deal with the brand in 1984, will be featured on Pepsi cans as a part of the campaign. The cans arrive Stateside later this month.

Joe Jonas seems, by all accounts, like a nice young man. Nice enough that we even kind of buy that he’s doing Pepsi’s “Live for Now” campaign for something other than the money.
“It’s cool to be able to go to this platform and check out different pop culture things that are going on,” he told us, explaining the global promotion aiming to inspire people to live in the moment.
But, moving on, let’s talk underwear and flirty faxes. On his forward fans’ actions
“The boldest is probably throwing articles of underwear on stage. That has happened. And then I’ve had a fan once ask me to punch them, which I thought was crazy, and they were like, ‘Well because then, you know, I’ll always remember it.’ I’m like, ‘You know what? I really don’t wanna do that.’ That was a female fan. I didn’t hit her.Wait — how many undies?
I don’t really collect them. How many has the stage collected? It could be in like the 50 range. On getting a girl’s attention — the non-underwear method
I faxed somebody once. I was asking somebody on a date. I met her at a store and I sent her a fax that said, hey would you like to go out with me, here’s my number. She faxed me back.
Joe Jonas teams up with Pepsi’s “Live For Now” global campaign to help inspire fans around the world to live in the moment. Check out the following interview with Joe on how it will work…
Mike Ragogna: Joe, how’s it going?
Joe Jonas: It’s been going really well. It’s a pretty easy day, we’ve been running around, but it’s been pretty good.Joe, how are you involved with the new Pepsi Pulse initiative?
Pepsi and I have teamed up together to encourage my fans and encourage people out there to go to this cool page where they can understand a little more about what’s going on with pop culture and get them connected a little easier, also to encourage my fans to go out there and hash tag “Live For Now,” which is an awesome campaign to help people get inspired to live in the moment, showcase what they’re doing to live in the moment, and I’m able to share my live in the moment.
What are some of the “Live For Now” activities you’ll be doing, what would a normal day of posts be like for you?
It can vary, it can be anything. Personally, I think it’s going to be everything from keeping up with what’s going on that’s in the entertainment world that I really like to things that could be spontaneous twists, or it could be trying a new food that I’ve never tried before. It could be from anything to everything.
Very nice. What about its association with Twitter? It’s going to be a Twitter-ish, right?
Yeah, it’s all platforms thrown together. Mostly, Twitter is where people can go on and Tweet and hash-tag this. But there’s also a web site that’s been created that going to be really cool for people to go to. My content is going to be on there, and there are other artists like Nicky Minaj, Katy Perry, and others that are going to be announced soon. It’s going to have a bunch of different stuff, which will keep people involved and updated on what’s going on in pop culture.Your fans would also be able to post, right?
Yeah, absolutely. They can post creative, interesting stuff that might even make it on the Pepsi page. Or I might re-Tweet it, depending on whether I really think it’s cool stuff or a little bit different, just to be able to encourage them to keep active on it.
It seems like Pepsi Pulse is trying to bring to people those things in pop culture that are relevant in the moment.
Yeah, I feel like that’s always something that’s vital for me and for young people. I think that’s why this is so cool with Pepsi. It’s very visual; there’s always the difference between reading something online or seeing visuals and videos. It keeps you excited and educated and keeps you up to date with what’s going on in your city or the world. You mentioned before about posting stuff that you like, such as concerts and music. What have you got your eye on lately? What are you listening to and what are you looking out for?
Right now I’ve been looking into the new Norah Jones record, which is truly fantastic, I really like it. I’ve been listening to this artist, Frank Ocean, who is really great. The Weekends are great, this DJ, a seventeen-year-old who’s name is Madeon. I just saw The Avengers movie, thought it was fantastic, a really great movie and looking forward to the second one already.
Yeah, I thought it was amazing too.
It was funny because I was like, “OK am I really going to love this film?” because it’s just a lot going on, a lot of characters. But I was really shocked, blown away because I thought it was really great.
My favorite thing about that movie is that every time a character was up at bat, it was their movie.
Yeah, literally they each had their own piece of the puzzle, it was so great. I was really happy to see that The Hulk looked really good in it, it made his character really awesome.
Finally, right? So will there be other kinds of posts that you’ll be making on Pepsi Pulse, like when you’re working on something, will you be using this as your platform to try it out with fans?
Absolutely. I think it’s a great way to keep people involved and showcase the new music that I’m creating with my brothers again and even share places that I’m traveling to.I was a little shy of asking that. You’re working on your own stuff, but you’re also working on projects as The Jonas Brothers?
Yeah, I just started up again in a studio with my brothers and we’re just creating music right now. I’m excited to share it with the fans, the songs I’ve gotten so far, and it won’t be too long before they start hearing stuff.
So what about mentoring? Are you in a place in your life where you feel like your role is looking at some acts and discovering new music, maybe trying to help folks out a little?
Yeah, it’s funny you say that. There are a couple of opportunities that might be a possibility for me to be in those kinds of roles. I find it funny to be the old guy on the block now that all these young artists are coming out, and I think I’ve gone through so much, everything from personal stuff to the music side of it. The wins, the defeats, and carrying on where you’ve been doing it for six or seven years now and we understand both circles of both sides, the good and the bad and what’s going on. So the mentorship side of things has always been interesting to me.
Were you guys mentored?
There were certain people who have said things to us that have really struck a chord. Everybody from Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys, who said to me a long time ago, “Watch the people around you and their mistakes so that you don’t make the same ones.” I felt like that was really incredible. My dad has been a big mentor, musically and personally. He’s a friend to me and as I’m older we’ve become closer friends now. Our relationships have changed but only for the better. He always said to us, “Live like you’re at the bottom even if you’re at the top.” We still live by that.
Beautiful. That leads to my traditional question, which is what advice do you have for new artists?
I think the biggest advice I have for new artists is know that all this can go away tomorrow and really respect the people around you and treat them right. This isn’t an opportunity that many people have. Also, even though you might not have one, have a photographic memory if you can. There are small things from people you meet that you’ll feel like, “Wait, I can’t believe I didn’t even stop to appreciate this moment.”
What is Joe Jonas’ future?
My future is probably focusing on the band and being able to do everything I can right now to make the band bigger than it’s ever been and continue to make music that I’m proud of. Then I think music and acting is something that I want to be involved in, or also internships for other artists, whether on my own label, or making projects for each of them. I love to create.
Joe, thank you so much for your time, I really appreciate it.
Thank you, nice talking to you!

PepsiCo has tapped Joe Jonas as a brand ambassador for its new celebrity-infused “Live for Now” global ad campaign.
The Jonas Brother will lend his star power by participating in Pepsi Pulse, the campaign’s social media dashboard that curates trending pop culture news.
Jonas on Wednesday described his involvement and revealed his favorite apps, music services and other digital tidbits.
“It seemed like the perfect fit,” Jonas said during an interview with Mashable in his New York City hotel suite Wednesday. “I like to be spontaneous and want to encourage fans to live for now.
“Being creative is going to be fun.”
On Twitter, Jonas will tweet messages and photos to show how he’s “living in the now,” and spur on fans via #LiveForNow hashtag challenges to contribute content for the real-time Pulse platform.
Eventually, Jonas’s music chops will be put to use, but there are no details on that yet.
Jonas is the third high-profile musician to join Pepsi’s Live for Now initiatives. Hip-hop star Nicki Minaj helped launch the campaign May 7, appearing in a commercial that also used her song “Moment 4 Life.” A partnership with Katy Perry and her upcoming flick Part of Me 3D will include Live for Now branding and live events.
When prodded to name the gadgets, apps and music services he likes, Jonas was quick to tout his iPad and the Twitter app. But he also rattled off these favorites:
Shazam: This app recognizes music, TV and advertisements in seconds. To Jonas, it’s “mind-blowing.”
Fandango: Jonas enjoys being able to use a barcode as his movie ticket.
Uber: “It’s pretty awesome,” he says, adding that it’s good for when traffic is high and the weather is bad.
GrubHub This app makes it easy for Jonas to order food from a mobile device and then have it delivered.
Spotify: Jonas likes listening to other people’s playlists on Spotify.
Pandora: Jonas recently visited Pandora HQ and learned about the “DNA of music.”
Fake text message app: Possibly Fake-A-Message or Fake Sms Celebrity, which lets Jonas send texts disguised as other celebrities.
Jonas also says ebooks are “cool.” He wants to read The Hunger Games next but may consume the trilogy in printed form instead.Behind Jonas in his suite stood a printed poster of Pepsi Pulse. On the web, the platform (see below) presents the trending news items in a top 10 ranking based on real-time data from social media-optimization company SocialFlow.
Shiv Singh, global head of digital for PepsiCo Beverages, recently told Mashable the hub basically “is a cheat sheet for pop culture.” It’s purpose is to invite and inspire consumers to live in the moment by knowing what’s hot across the web so they can be the first among their friends to share the information on social networks.
Joe talks about The Choice, Married to Jonas, working on new Jonas Brothers music, and more!

by James HibberdFox’s upcoming celebrity dating show The Choice has lined up a list of famous bachelors and bachelorettes to audition sexy singles in prime time.
EW.com has the complete list of celebrity contestants, the first photo from the set and some behind-the-scenes insight from Fox’s alternative series guru Mike Darnell.
The Choice has cast singer Joe Jonas, actor Dean Cain, fashion model Tyson Beckford, former American Idol star Taylor Hicks, Jersey Shore stars Pauly D and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, chef Rocco Dispirito, TV personality Rob Kardashian, former NFL star Warren Sapp and more (full list below). The female celebrities include actress Carmen Electra and model Hope Dworaczyk.
In each episode, four celebrities sit in spinning chairs and listen to non-famous prospective dates pitch themselves. Over the course of three rounds, the contestant pool is paired down until each celebrity has chosen their date for the evening (more details on the show’s origins and concept here).
“What started out as a goof ended up being a ridiculously good format,” says Fox’s Darnell, who was on hand during The Choice‘s recent taping. “It really feels like a hit. It was charming and funny… [The show] works beautifully. It’s going to sell all over the world.”
Five of the episodes will feature male celebrities; one episode puts women in the power seats. The contestants were unaware who the celebrities were until moments before they went on stage, but that didn’t stop the sparks. “The [female contestants] took it ridiculously seriously, like they were getting married,” Darnell says. “A couple of the setups really had chemistry.”
Though none of the celebrities bombed with the contestants, Jonas, Cain and Beckford were particularly sought after, as was Suburgatory actor Parker Young and, somewhat surprisingly, Dispirito.
The Choice is hosted by Cat Deeley, who Darnell says turned out to be a “perfect fit” for the show. The series will be paired with Fox’s other new dating show, Take Me Out, on Thursday nights starting June 7.
