the romance! the breakup! camp rock 2 costars, tour mates, and former it couple demi lovato and joe jonas on being together . . . and drifting apart.
They’re both talented, good-looking, and famous, but Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato don’t exactly have the world on a string: Simpler pleasures, of the sort afforded to other kids their age, sometimes elude them. Earlier this year, when the Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam costars decided to test the romantic possibilities of their rock-solid friendship, they felt compelled to do so in public; when they broke up just a few months later, Joe announced it by issuing a statement, and Demi—always true to her loyal fans—decided to confirm the details on Twitter. “I kind of learned throughout this whole experience that having my private life public isn’t as awesome as it might seem,” the seventeen-year-old says with a rueful little laugh.
Even the process of scheduling their pre-split sit-down with Teen Vogue, for example—at which the then-couple agreed to interview each other—was complicated by their inability to appear together without risking mass hysteria. But for the most part, they seem to be fairly at ease with all the attention: After a daylong press junket, Demi’s famous laugh is still as loud as ever, and Joe, 20, is chipper and ready to chat. (Naturally, they were more subdued when they spoke to Teen Vogue again after their breakup, but more on that in a bit.)
Demi Lovato: What’s your favorite thing about me?
Joe Jonas: Do you really want me to answer that? Why don’t you tell me: On set, what was your favorite snack? Because I think I already know.
Demi Lovato: The tomato-cheese quesadillas. Do you remember those? They were so good. What did you think it was?
Joe Jonas: Cheese sticks.
Demi Lovato: We didn’t have cheese sticks!
Joe Jonas: Well, for some reason, I imagine you eating a lot of cheese sticks.
Demi Lovato: [Laughs] Thanks.
Joe Jonas: They just seem like something you would like.
Demi Lovato: I do love cheese sticks.
Joe Jonas: There you go.
Demi Lovato: So what was the hardest thing for you about making Camp Rock 2?
Joe Jonas: Finding time to sleep. There were so many things to do. If I wasn’t on set, I was cooking or working out. What about you?
Demi Lovato: I think it was balancing sleep too. Even though I wasn’t working out, I was dancing, sometimes for hours on end.
Joe Jonas: Have you ever been to a real summer camp?
Demi Lovato: Yeah, I went to church camp when I was in the sixth grade. What about you?
Joe Jonas: I went to sleepaway camp seven years in a row. I was such a pro. We had these relay races at the end of every summer, and the majority of the competitions were eating contests. Sometimes you would have to eat, like, a whole can of Spam; once I ate four raw potatoes. I didn’t really recover for weeks after that.
Demi Lovato: Eww!
Joe Jonas: In some ways, making this movie felt like camp all over again. During breaks, we weren’t hanging out in trailers—we were going down to the lake or playing in the woods.

Hello Hello Everyone,
Sorry I have been out of touch for a while but here is what I have been up to over the last few weeks. I have missed you all so much. I would like to tell you a little bit about what I have been doing.
I have seen some amazing things, met some wonderful people, tried some tasty foods, and been inches from HUGE lions. I have also experienced new cultures like I have never seen before.
My journey began in Maun, Botswana, Africa. I brought some of my best friends with me to be a part of this incredible experience. We were all changed by what we saw.
I was able to spend time with many kids and teens that go to school there. Their schools do not have the room to take care of this many people. Some of the classes had hundreds of kids in rooms smaller than most living rooms in the US. We played sports. I tested out my football skills (soccer in the US). We also played songs without by brothers. Felt strange to sing without my brothers but many of the people knew the songs, which surprised me considering that many do not have TV or radio.
I also spent time with some of the babies that were born to mothers carrying the HIV AIDS virus. Out of the entire trip this was one of the most touching moments. I miss those children already. I was close to coming back home with many Joe Jr.s.
One of the most powerful things to see is the joy the people had with so little material things in their lives. They were happy. Some without homes or bathrooms were still happy and wonderful to be with. It makes you think about your own life and the things you have. These people might not have a bed to sleep on but are still happy with their lives.
We went to a couple villages where there were 7 kids with one mother in a home made out of clay and soda bottles. We were able to bring them blankets to stay warm because the nights were so cold.
We all stayed in big tents while we were there with hot water bottles for our feet because it was so cold. Outside we could hear the sounds of monkeys climbing on the tent and Hippos close by every night.
We also went on a couple safaris – a walking safari, horseback safari, and a land rover off-road safari where you are inches from deadly animals.
Occasionally we made our safari guide mad by asking where Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King lived.
I was asked while I was there if I would be a part of an event where kids were taught to respect themselves, others, and your environment. Prince William was the main guest and we spent a lot of time together. It was an honor to get to know him and I look forward to getting to see him again soon.
For the future, I plan on going back to Africa, as well as other nations, to help out in any way I can. I feel like hands-on work is where I feel most satisfied. I look forward to going to different places – not only Africa where I have new friends – but all around the world. It is my goal to spend 50% of my time and life doing what I can to help others.
Happy to be back.
Thanks for your support,
Joe

Take away the hit TV show and the screaming hordes of tween girls, and you have three brothers who love to make music.
Granted, the Jonas Brothers are more famous than any other sibling trio — so famous that incredibly massive bodyguards protect them. Yet despite kicking off a three-month tour July 27, Kevin’s fairly new marriage, Joe’s sputtered romance with Disney starlet Demi Lovato and the paparazzi constantly chronicling their lives, the JoBro seem remarkably grounded.
They’re sequestered in a Manhattan hotel, happy to talk music and explain how, for them, music is enmeshed with acting.
They have a lot of both coming up: the tour; the launch of their revamped Disney show, “Jonas L.A.,” on Sunday, June 20; and the sequel to “Camp Rock,” “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” premiering Sept. 3.
Before TV catapulted them to superstardom, it was all about the music. They started as musicians, backing up Nick, 17, who turned pro at 6.
He performed in Broadway plays — “A Christmas Carol,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Les Miserables” — then came back to his home state of New Jersey and performed in “The Sound of Music” at Milburn’s Paper Mill Playhouse.
“The initial idea was being around other young people who loved to do what I did,” Nick says of musical theater.
Kevin recalls being very young when he was first drawn to the stage.
“There was an open call for a remake of ‘(Miracle on) 34th Street,’ and I got pretty far in the process,” he says. “I loved it (acting), and it was fun and a passion, but music always took the No. 1 seat.”
The brothers are seated around a large table in a hotel conference room that looks out on a drenched Central Park. Kevin wonders if that night’s Yankees game will be canceled because of rain.
“For me, music is something that always feels comfortable,” Joe says. “Acting is something I want to do. In L.A. now I’m taking meetings. It’s been really awesome.”
The new show, as the title broadcasts, places the brothers in Los Angeles. They are in an exquisite house, which comes with a pool and an annoying neighbor. There are starlets, the sights of Los Angeles, but for these young men, there’s always the music. And the show works best during the musical numbers.
Their new song, “L.A. Baby,” featured on the show has a segment easily lifted out for a music video. In it, they do some California cruising — Kevin gets a sweet convertible that runs best on Chinese restaurant oil. There are girls and goofy scenes, but it’s truly a Disney music video, and parents need not worry.
“Driving down the highway with a California breeze in my hair,” Nick sings.
He segues easily between drums and guitar and also plays piano and cello. Nick is very intense as he delves into his music, but his older brothers, particularly Kevin, keep spirits light.
The brothers are obviously close and music only cements that bond. Their 2008 CD, “A Little Bit Longer,” went multiplatinum. Last year’s “Lines, Vines and Trying Times” includes the song “World War III,” featuring the amazing horn section from Earth Wind & Fire.
The Jonas Brothers have also worked with Stevie Wonder and Brad Paisley. It was probably expected that they would stick with the tried pop music formula, but they’ve ventured into R&B and country.
Like most musicians, they’re fans of many artists. Kevin lights up as he talks up seeing Paul McCartney in concert. He was so excited he could not stay in his seat.
“The person me kept telling me to sit down,” he says, adding that he was unable to. “It was just amazing.”
They hope to electrify their fans as their North American tour takes them from smaller clubs to amphitheaters.
“As a band, the No. 1 priority from the beginning is we strive to write more music, that’s more honest in our lyrics,” Joe says. “And we want to write music through our lives.”
“Personally, we want to continue where we are in all of our lives,” Kevin says. “I love to tour. It’s a lifestyle. You become used to it.”
SONNY WITH A CHANCE & JONAS LA PROMISE BIG SUNDAY NIGHT FOR DISNEY
June 17, 2010Only 3 days until a big night of premieres on Disney Channel!
Sunday night kicks off with part 2 of the “Sonny With a Chance” episode, “Falling for the Falls” at 8pm EST. In “Falling for the Falls Part 2,” Sonny and Chad (Demi Lovato & Sterling Knight) have been keeping their relationship a secret for weeks from their fellow “So Random!” and “Mackenzie Falls” cast mates. When the studio decides to end the feud between the two shows, Chad is set up on a date with Tawni (Tiffany Thornton) and ‘Chawni’ quickly becomes the Hollywood “it” couple. Sonny, not a fan of the coupling, shows up at a Mackenzie Falls party with her own special date.
Next up at 8:25pm EST is the premiere of Selena Gomez’s new music video for “Round and Round.”
Then at 8:30pm EST is the highly anticipated season premiere of “JONAS L.A.”!! Kevin, Joe, Nick, Stella & Macy have packed up and headed to Los Angeles for a summer of fun, music and romance. In the premiere episode titled “House Party,” the gang arrives in Los Angeles to begin a summer vacation they will never forget. Their gregarious neighbor, DZ (Adam Hicks), convinces the guys to throw a house party to announce their arrival and Nick invites Emma Roberts to the party.
We know what we’ll be doing Sunday night. Make sure to tune in and then tweet us what you thought of the episodes.
Also below, check out some fun photos that Nicole Anderson has been tweeting as a countdown until the premiere.

Joe Jonas met up with Prince William today at the Coaching for Conservation in Maun Botswana. The event was centered around teaching kids life lessons through soccer, sports, and good coaching.
Initially Joe was only supposed to play one set, but ended up being personally requested by the Prince himself to play an additional one! The two handsome young men got to chat and get to know each other pretty well.
Joe says, “Being able to collaborate with Prince William to bring awareness to the kids of Botswana was a very special experience. It was a great way to show the children they have the world in front of them and can be whatever they want to if they put their mind to it. Meeting the Prince was a true honor and hopefully we can work together again.”
4,000 people being in the presence of those two boys must have been incredible. I’m sure we all hope for them to work together again too!
