After the Jonas Brothers abruptly canceled their tour three weeks ago – and went silent as they contemplated the band’s future – reports surfaced suggesting that Joe Jonas had a drug problem.
Now the 24-year-old singer wishes to set the record straight, telling PEOPLE: “It’s ridiculous!”
“We’re not saying anything for two or three weeks and I’m a drug addict!”
What upset him even more is that his girlfriend, Blanda Eggenschwiler, was also dragged into the rumors.
“It’s obviously not true. I’ve never touched heroin in my life. Either has my girlfriend,” he said. “It’s hilarious to me, but also frustrating as well. It pissed me off when it’s about my girl and even about myself.”
At one point, he said, people even approached him personally about it.
“I was walking down the street and people are asking me if they can give me a hug and how rehab is,” says Joe. “I’m like, you tell me because I’ve never been.”
So why didn’t he speak out right away to correct the impression?
After Nick Jonas, 21, first confessed to older brothers Joe and Kevin that he had concerns about the band – they then unanimously decided to call it quits – Joe says: “We all had to deal with it in our own way. I needed time to clear my head.”
Already, that is a thing of the past. Looking ahead, Joe says, “I’m genuinely excited.”

WHO: Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers
WHERE & WHEN: 99.5 WZPL “Smiley Morning Show” on July 11, 2013.
WEARING: Doodles Homme
MY VERDICT: Joe Jonas got goofy with his brothers Kevin and Nick–and the whole radio station team at the 99.5 WZPL Indianapolis “Smiley Morning Show” last week (Thursday, July 11th) while they were in town to perform a concert later that night. The 23-year-old JoBro was sporting some serious scruff while he kept it casual in jeans and a t-shirt from Doodles Homme.
Joe is wearing the white crewneck “Squid” graphic tee from the menswear street line.
Amongst the collection of cool jackets, printed snapbacks and slouchy trousers, the Los Angeles-native rising designer line boasts an assortment of whimsy tees like Joe’s with a variety of eye-catching doodles.
Bee-tee-dubbs… these tees are totally girl-friendly too, so don’t hold back.
Joe Jonas has inspired and touched millions of young people through his music, but he’s not stopping there! On the eve of his summer concert tour with the Jonas Brothers, Joe took time out to travel and volunteer his time with Free The Children.
This past month, Joe Jonas, part of the Grammy® nominated, multi-platinum trio the Jonas Brothers, spent eight days on a Me to We volunteer trip to Kenya. Deep in the rural Maasai Mara, Joe was able to explore the history and culture of Kenyan communities, and experience firsthand the challenges that community members are presented with. As part of his volunteer trip, he spent much of his time working alongside the community members to help build schools and school rooms for the local children with Me to We’s charity partner Free The Children.
Joe also soaked in the scenery and culture with once-in-a-lifetime activities like beading with Maasai Mamas, travelling on a sunset safari and learning how to speak Swahili. Local community members were excited to share their culture with him, and he was eager to experience Kenyan customs.
This trip had such a positive impact on both Joe, and the communities he visited – he definitely has some new fans in Kenya! After he returned home, Joe told us, “I’ve never been to Kenya before. Experiencing it for the first time with Me to We and Free The Children provided me with a new perspective. I was able to see first-hand the value and role education plays in the lives of children. In fact, my brothers and I will have a special message to share with our fans while we are on tour this year.”
We are so grateful for Joe’s participation in this trip, and his involvement doesn’t end here. “My brothers and I have been supporting Free The Children for a number of years now. In fact, this fall we will be performing at one of its youth empowerment events, We Day Minnesota, in front of 18,000 students from across the state,” said Joe Jonas.
The Jonas Brothers’ incredible efforts to make local and global change are inspiring. Marc Kielburger, co-founder of Free The Children and Me to We explains, “Whether you’re a celebrity or not, giving back to people who need it most is an incredible feeling – whether it is traveling and volunteering oversees like Joe did, or supporting your community and giving food to your local food bank. Everyone has an opportunity to make a difference and get involved.”

In their personal and professional lives, Joe Jonas and his brothers always strive to bring awareness to issues and to help people in need. In this spirit, Joe collaborated with Me to We Style to design this eco-friendly, sweatshop-free T-shirt with a powerful message.
The T-shirt bears the message: BOA ME NA ME MMOA WO or “help me and let me help you.” It is a phrase that Joe picked up on a spiritual trip to southern Africa a few years ago, and it serves as a simple reminder that we can always do more to help other people, no matter how near or far. Together we can change the world. One helping hand at a time.

Joe Jonas Jokes About The Meaning Behind ‘Pom Poms’
Joe shared with “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” that the boys have a rather unique pre-show ritual which, to us, requires some serious multi-tasking skills.
“We like to play hacky sack and warm our voices and kick around a soccer ball,” says the singer.
And aside from going on tour and releasing an upcoming album, the Jonas brothers are also returning to the small screen, opening up their lives to the camera once again on the reality series, Married to Jonas.
